- Get into the heart and mind of the families you work with to gain understanding of what parents are looking for when they leave their child with you to help increase positive outcomes for all. Why do parents disengage or dismiss your ideas and important feedback? How can you work together to ensure the most positive behavior outcomes for the child? What leads to lack of follow through or pushing your boundaries? What can you do about it?!
- Discover strategies to help build a relationship that will help you thrive amidst difficulty and the inevitable challenges that come up when educating and sharing the care of young children.
- Identify strategies to build a strong connection with families that increase the rewards you experience in your work as you build trusting relationships and foster bonded connections that last (even through difficulties!)

Part 1: It's All About Relationships (March 8th). The reality is, working with others to educate and care for young children can be difficult, especially when families show up distracted and stressed, don't check in, linger at goodbye time, or do not follow program rules or guidelines. Collect strategies to build a rewarding relationship with families that will ensure they remain open to your feedback Increase the rewards you experience in your work as you foster bonded connections that last amidst difficulties and help weather the inevitable challenges that come up.

Part 2: Communicating Concerns and Challenges (March 15th) - Gain strategies to effectively and comfortably discuss concerns and challenging behaviors with families. Collect methods to set the stage for these conversations before concerns arise. Identify tips and specific helpful language that will turn these potentially awkward or tense conversations into comfortable and collaborative discussions. The strategies learned will help keep parents open to your insight, increase family buy-in, and help maintain your important relationship.

Part 3: Navigating Conflicts, Cultural Dynamics, and Differences in Caregiving Practices (March 22nd) - Ever had a parent who asked you to do something you were not comfortable with (such as stop giving their child naps?) I was that parent... and when this challenge was not resolved collaboratively, I chose another childcare. What can you do to resolve conflicts in a way that feels like a win-win and keeps families invested in your program? Discover methods to address issues that come up and work through differences in a way that empowers parents and leaves all parties feelings respected and valued.

Who is your presenter?
Raelene Ostberg is the Founder of Thriving Together and brings unique perspective to her Collaborating with Families series. Raelene partnered with early childhood educators to successfully raise her own two daughters as she served families in different capacities (in the early childhood classroom, home-visiting, as a parent educator, and as a professional speaker). Through her journey with four different childcare providers, and the ups and downs that came with it, she gained interesting knowledge and understanding that aligns with studies on this topic. What are they looking for when they leave their child with caregivers? Why do parents disengage? What leads to lack of follow through and pushing your boundaries? What can you do about it?! Join us for this insightful and engaging series as it brings you into the mind and heart of your clients (the family members who utilize your program).
